PARENT CARERS & YOUNG CARERS

ABOUT BEING A PARENT CARER OR A 'YOUNG CARER'...
top-bg.jpg
We aim to Reach out to more parent carers, Involve them in a variety of different exciting ways, Build on past good work and continue to provide a voice for all...

We are a new group of parents and carers of children with disabilities and special needs who live in Bristol. For 20 years parent carers and parent support agencies in Bristol have worked in partnership with the local authorities to shape service provision for children and young people with disabilities and special needs. These initiatives have been successful in bringing about positive changes for parent carers and their children.

CHRONIC STRESS IN PARENTS & CARERS OF CHILDREN & ADULTS WITH AUTISM:

Research shows that Parents and Carers of children and adults with autism suffer with more stress, anxiety and mental health issues than Parents and Carers of children and adults with any other disability. This long term chronic stress can cause chronic physical illness and disease and therefore it is even more important that Parents and Carers get the help and support they need to look after their health and well-being. Using NLP is an excellent education and psychotherapy model that enables and empowers you to think, communicate and behave in a more positive way, improving your health and well-being and to make the necessary changes you want and believe will create your ideal way of life and be the person you want to be.

Adrenal Fatigue Additionally, Fawne Hansen has written about a condition called Adrenal Fatigue and an e-book which helps you to assess whether this is something you may be suffering from, due to the long term stress you may be experiencing as a parent and carer and how you can treat it. Click here or on the above logo to read more from her website and download the book.

WHO IS A YOUNG CARER?
Young carers are children and young people who look after someone in their family who has a disability, a long term illness, or is affected by mental ill health or substance misuse.
Young carers may look after parents, care for a brother or sister, or other relative. The average age of a young carer is 12 and they take on responsibilities normally only expected of an adult.... CLICK HERE to visit the BRISTOL YOUNG CARERS WEBSITE

BOURNSTREAM TRUST
An OASIS for any family with a child with any disability. I found this wonderful outside rural play area when my daughter was small and would organise for other parents to join and meet for picnics in the summer and school holidays. It has a fabulous playground securely fenced with gates which are locked to keep the children safe and let you relax better than you could in any public park! There is also a walk through the woods, which I must admit I never got round to doing as I was always so relaxed enjoying the playground and socialising with the other parents while our children played! Take a look at the website and see for yourself and read how to join! It's AMAZING!
AS THIS IS SUCH A BEUATIFUL NATURAL ENVIRONMENT WITH NO MODERN FACILITIES, EXCEPT A TOILET FACILITY, YOU MUST TREAT IT LIKE YOU ARE IN THE COUNTRYSIDE FOR A PICNIC AND KEEP TO THE COUNTRY CODE; TAKING YOUR RUBBUSH HOME WITH YOU AND LEAVING THE AREA TIDY FOR OTHERS WHO FOLLOW YOU...

YEO VALLEY LIONS CLUB PLAYGOUND
Another playground designed especially for children with disabilities. There is a cafe close by here and a diabled toilet facility. It's different to Bournstream but just much an Oasis in as much you can relax in the knowledge your children are safe to play with no escape route!
